Prof. Dr. A. Lakshminath is a rare combination of an erudite scholar, an astute administrator, a relentless researcher and a revered teacher in the legal community. For the past 46 years, he has with single-minded devotion strived to serve the academia in law in multiple capacities across the country. Currently, as Pro-Chancellor emeritus and founder Vice-Chancellor, Chanakya National Law University, he has rendered selfless service to the field of legal education by setting up the University in Patna that competes with 15 other
National Law Schools as centre of excellence in legal education. He has been teaching law since the year 1967 to thousands of students who went on to become eminent lawyers, jurists, public figures, judges and academicians. Till date he has guided more than 500 LL. M. dissertations, 345 project reports, 84 Ph.Ds. and 9 LL. Ds. degrees in Law which is a RECORD by itself. He has authored 10 Books and 140 Articles in reputed Journals. Prof. Lakshminath has served the cause of legal education in almost all parts of the country and the backward regions of the country in particular. Having started his teaching career in Nagpur University and later as its Dean of Faculty of Law, he taught at the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and became the Principal of Andhra University Law College and was appointed Professor-Registrar and Dean, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad before finally shifting to Bihar to lay the foundation for the Chanakya National Law University. He has imparted education to the students of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra and then moved to cater the needs of the students of Telangana Region of Andhra Pradesh and now in Bihar, all the said regions had been backward in education and other concerns. His thirst to reach the unreachable of the society continues and it has been given due recognition. The Government of Bihar in a rare gesture amended the University Act to facilitate the utilization of his services beyond Seventy years. In yet another rare gesture the Government of Andhra Pradesh has reappointed him as Chancellor of Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University of Andhra Pradesh. In between these major innings, he continued to enrich himself and the legal community – nationally and internationally. He was Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Massachusetts, U.S.A., Fellow of Salzburg Seminar, Austria and Visiting Professor at Banaras Hindu University amongst many other universities and institutions. He has participated in more than 140 national and international seminars and symposia and has either presided over or delivered key-note addresses in more than 140 academic meets in India and across the globe including USA, UK, Japan and Europe. Prof. A. Lakshminath has contributed immensely to the clinical legal education by spreading legal awareness and organising Legal Aid Camps amongst the masses especially amongst the underprivileged and marginalised sections of the society. Till date he has organised several legal aid camps and legal literacy programmes at various levels and in various regions of the country including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. As Project Director for the NHRC’s Human Rights literacy programmes got published books on Human Rights that are available in four Southern languages - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. As a Senior Consultant to the Andhra Pradesh Government he successfully completed projects on Judicial Process and good governance. As Director of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) he organised several sensitisation programs on Environmental awareness in remote, far off and inaccessible areas. Prof. A. Lakshminath has relentlessly worked towards promoting socio-cultural understanding and integration by heading voluntary organisations for the cause of communal harmony, linguistic minorities and consumer rights. He was President of Cultural Associations and Cooperative Housing Society, Vice-President of Hindu Muslim Welfare Association in Maharashtra and Consumer and Environmental Forums in Andhra Pradesh. He was visiting Professor in reputed Institutions like National Fire Service College, Nagpur, L. B. S. National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie etc. He was the founder Director of Department of Legal Studies in Dr. Ambedkar College, Diskha Bhoomi, Nagpur. Recipient of many awards and honours, Prof. A. Lakshminath has been recently conferred with Prof N. R. Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher Award 2012 for SAARC countries for his long and distinguished services to the legal education and legal profession, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Education Award in 2008 and Lifetime Achievement award by International Educators for World Peace, Alabama USA in 2007. It is very appropriate to quote Padmashri Prof. N. R. Dr. (h.c.) Mamta Binani is the National Immediate Past President of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) for the year 2016 and she relinquished the office of President on 19  January, 2017. She is the second lady President of ICSI in the illustrious history of the Institute of 48 years.
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is constituted under an Act of Parliament i.e. the Company Secretaries Act, 1980 (Act No. 56 of 1980) and is a statutory body. ICSI is the only recognized professional body in India to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries in India. ICSI has its headquarters at New Delhi and 4 regional offices at New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai and has 69 chapters spread across the length and breadth of the Country. The ICSI has close to 50,000 members and approximately 4,00,000 students. Mamta Binani is a commerce graduate, a Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and has done LLB. She has been a meritorious student throughout her education career. She was an All India Topper in the Intermediate Examinations of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, amongst all the Lady Candidates in India and had ranked 14th on an All India basis. He joined the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) in 1961 and held various responsible positions in the Government of Rajasthan and Government of India. He was the secretary to Government of Rajasthan dealing with various departments in different times; he was Secretary Industries; Secretary Mines; Secretary to Chief Minister etc in Rajasthan. In Government of India he was Controller of Capital Issues, Additional Secretary Banking in the Ministry of Finance. He was also the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports or the Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. During this time the fundamentally changed Export – Import policy for the country was introduced. He was also the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (1992-95) (RBI) when the banking reforms where introduced. Subsequently, he became the Chairman of Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator for the capital market in India. He held this responsibility for seven years from 1995-2002. During this period the Indian capital market became modern and sophisticated because of large number reforms. The High Court was hearing two petitions by US nationals who were unable to take their children adopted from biological parents outside India in the absence of any guidelines in the country on the issue. The daily issue of the Business Standard on the cases represented by Thukral quoted "Voicing concern over the issue of inter-country adoptions where biological parents are directly giving their child for adoption, the Delhi High Court sought details of the process of adoption in United States." The Guardian quoted Mr. Thukral in an article published as "The lack of legal clarity means such adoptions become vulnerable to delays, harassment and corruption". The Minister for women and child welfare Maneka Gandhi in the same article was quoted saying, "People have to wait for three to four years to adopt. That is inexcusable, I want to overhaul the system so it takes not more than four months to adopt." The Washington Post taking account of the two famous cases represented by Mr. Thukral published an article with a heading 'India moves to improve 'shameful' record on orphan adoptions' reporting that 'A large number of children go missing every year in India, and the number of infants is huge.' The Newstral mentioned about the report as India is targeting adoption red tape as a black market for babies thrives. The Court further observed that 'it was a larger issue and needed consideration. It will have huge repercussion'. Mr. Thukral is one of the known good lawyers in India and one of the top 3 Handpicked Property Case Lawyers in Delhi. Mr. Thukral was the leading lawyer in the five important cases decided by the Delhi High Court in 2016 with the landmark judgment PKH versus CARA related to Hague Convention for adoption of children. Thukral represented Sonu Ahluwalia in the Indian Court proceedings related to his divorce in US with Bollywood actress Pooja Batra. Thukral had also represented the Australian citizen before the Delhi High Court in the Indian citizenship revocation case. His name also appears on the Delhi Criminal Lawyers listings as one of the eminent lawyers. His name appears as one of the top international lawyers having a full service law firm in the indexes of international lawyers from various countries. The Wall Street Journal interviewed Mr. Thukral on the Criminal Law Amendment Bill which was passed by the Indian Parliament later in the year 2014 which aimed to strengthen the country's laws on sexual assault. Mr. Thukral was again interviewed by the Wall Street Journal's Deborah Kan in 2013 on the famous Delhi Gang Rape case on the aspect of how India's legal system was dealing with a trial that was seizing the country.
